Buddha in Glory
Rainer Maria Rilke
translated by James Burnham (1948- )
Center of all centers, seed of seeds,
self-enclosed almond growing sweeter—
all of this, to the very last star,
is the fruit of your flesh: be praised!
You feel how things no longer cling to you,
so infinite is your shell;
and within it flows your heavy sap
impelled by distant rays,
for your giant glowing galaxies
twist in every direction.
And what survives the stars
is already begun in you.
