Amid Gethsemane's deep shade,
Where Kedron's turbid waters strayed,
Just when the day's last beam had flown,
The Saviour wept and prayed alone,--

Ay, wept and prayed in anguish deep,
While those he loved were lost in sleep,
In fearful agony profound,
Until his blood fell o'er the ground.

Alone, yet not alone, he prayed,
For angels stood within the shade,
Strengthening him, and lifting up
His prostrate form to drink the cup.

Thus, when we seek Gethsemane,
And pour our tearful agony,
Jesus is ever present there
To soothe our woes, our sorrows share.
