Ever hidden from our eyes,
Distant far tomorrow lies,
With its grey or golden skies.
To youth it lies shrouded in glorious dreams,
But to age a soft glow from the past it seems.

No man knows that silent shore,
Where tomorrow went, before
She had cross'd our threshold o'er.
The sound of her footsteps sped quickly away,
She left us forever at dawning of day.

Age and youth in vain they sigh,
One by one the years go by,
No tomorrow draweth nigh.
Yet sometimes the sound of her distant feet,
Is caught by some dreamer who echoes their beat.

But some day when all is done,
And the slowly sinking sun,
Shows us rest is well nigh won,
The mists that now hide it will all clear away,
Tomorrow will merge in the light of day.
