The breath of Spring will steal again
Bloom-scented o'er the earth,
And silently the sleeping flowers
In beauty wake to birth.

Bright birds will flit and blossoms float
Upon the balmy air,
And Nature with her vernal song
Pour gladness everywhere.

I think of those who lie asleep
Within the silent tomb;
To them the spring-time comes in vain,
With all its light and bloom.

I dream of her who early sought
A fairer Spring than ours,
Of her who died when autumn winds
Sighed o'er the fading flowers.

She knew that balmier breezes played
In Paradise afar,
And sweeter notes than those of birds
Were sung where angels are.
