Pearls
by:
Anna Katherine Green
(1846-1935)
The wave that floods the trembling shore,
And desolates the strand,
In ebbing leaves, 'mid froth and wreck,
A shell upon the sand.
So troubles oft o'erwhelm the soul;
And shake the constant mind,
That in retreating leave a pearl
Of memory behind.
